Finally some results i don't feel ashamed to put up here. After the severe bonking/passing out/drooling/sleeping incident at the Coyote Classic a couple weeks back i was a little nervous at the start of today's race. It was a great course for me though. Total power course, probably putting out close to 300 watts the entire day. I took advantage of the 40 mile per hour headwind on the dirt road going out. I knew my biggest rival couldn't push the gears i could turn so i just got on the bar ends and hammered. i was with a group and kept motioning for them to come through, but i guess the man with 7 teammates in the race wanted to conserve energy (I beat him anyway so not a big deal). And all the others were just enjoying the skinny junior pulling the pro field along. Each time someone would come through and get smacked in the face with the wind and slow down. i wanted to draft but knew i couldn't go that slow as the people behind me would catch on, so i just stayed on the front and pounded away. It was like a Cat 4 New Mexico road race, only with faster people and less needless tapping of wheels. By the time we reached the tailwind road section i had been dropped, but managed to pass all the people in the group i was in by the finish. At the halfway point i had almost 8 minutes on my second place guy and had only lost 7 minutes from Damian. I just kept hammering and even caught up with Nina Baum, collegiate national champion. We were hammering along the road together and she tried to exchange pulls, but the wind was coming off her head and hitting me square in the face. i finally told her just to sit in behind me and i just pulled her along. For those of you who don't know Nina, she is a super nice and talented rider and was instrumental in helping me create a resume and really get into racing. We finally hit the dirt road leading to the finish line and finally had a tail wind. In the words of Nina, "this is better than sex". At this point i was totally motivated and put it in the 44-11 and just hammered. Nina stayed with me for a while and i dropped her just before the finish line. She finished only about 10 seconds back.
overall i won the Junior Expert division and came in 10 out of all th Pro/expert field (29 riders)
this was also the first time i have ever beaten Nina
I was happy because i now know all my power training workouts are paying off.

Awesome job on the race! Glad you made your comeback--I was a bit worried too after you told me about your bonking story. :)

Congrats Bill! Awesome effort...but please tell me you had a witty reply to Nina's comment.
